Ferrari dominate final practice - US

Michael Schumacher lead a Ferrari 1-2 in the final free practice session for the United States Grand Prix

The seven times world champion snatched the top spot in the final minute of the one-hour session, lapping in 1:10.760 - the fastest lap of the weekend do far.

His Brazilian teammate Felipe Massa was less than three tenths of a second slower, with Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella over a second behind, in third.

Nick Heidfeld was fourth for BMW Sauber with Rubens Barrichello's Honda next up.

Defending world champion Fernando Alonso was only sixth and over 1.5 seconds down after concentrating on heavy fuel runs in his Renault.

After only completing a minimal number of laps on Friday, Mark Webber was determined to find a good set-up for his Williams to avoid another embarrassing first-round elimination from qualifying.

What the Australian did find was the grass on the exit of Turn 11, pitching him into a spin that left the Williams coasting backwards down the track.

He was not the only name to get it wrong, though, as Juan Pablo Montoya had a grassy moment at Turn 9 in his McLaren and Fisichella did likewise at Turn 1 - seconds after going fastest in his Renault early on.

Even Schumacher was punished for a small mistake, as he spun at Turn 7 while trying to get on terms with the front-running pace.
