Davidson stays on top in practice 2 - US

Anthony Davidson completed a double success by topping the timesheets in the second free practice session for the United States Grand Prix

The 27-year-old Honda test driver lapped the Indianapolis track in 1:12.013 to add to his fastest time from the morning session.

BMW Sauber test driver Robert Kubica was second, despite a gravely excursion early on, and was nearly eight tenths of a second behind Davidson.

Behind them, Giancarlo Fisichella was third for Renault with Felipe Massa fourth in a Ferrari.

Test driver Giorgio Mondini produced the best practice performance of the season for a Midland in fifth - ahead of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, who was sixth for Ferrari - and Tiago Monteiro added to Midland's joy in seventh.

Defending world champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso was a disappointing ninth in his Renault, almost 1.5 seconds off the pace.

Frenchman Franck Montagny ruined his session within the first ten minutes after spinning his Super Aguri off backwards into the same gravel trap that claimed Michael Schumacher in the opening session.

That was not the only moment though, as turns one and 11 continued to catch drivers out as they had done earlier.

Red Bull's David Coulthard out-braked himself at turn one and went straight on over the grass, just as BMW Sauber's Jacques Villeneuve had done earlier.
