Kubica flies in practice 2 - Britain

Robert Kubica led the way at Silverstone by topping the second free practice session for the British Grand Prix with the fastest time of the day

Kubica was quickest in 1:21.082 seconds, over 1.2 seconds ahead of Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella.

Fisichella had a scare, though, as he spun at high speed when he touched the brakes at the end of the 320 kilometres per hour Hangar straight, but re-joined the track after driving along the escape road next to the circuit.

Third was Williams test driver Alex Wurz, with Honda tester Anthony Davidson the best Briton and Italian Jarno Trulli next up for Toyota.

Felipe Massa endured a mistake-strewn session in his Ferrari.

Massa went off the road and onto the grass twice - outbraking himself at the Abbey and Club chicanes, and then stalled in the pitlane.

He still managed to set the sixth fastest time - one spot ahead of world champion Spaniard Fernando Alonso, in a Renault, and two places ahead of his teammate Michael Schumacher, who himself put two wheels on the grass exiting Abbey late in the session.

McLaren were the most disappointing performers of the day just two weeks after Kimi Raikkonen's performance at the Monaco Grand Prix.

The Finn was 21st quickest after completing only four laps, while his teammate Juan Pablo Montoya was 14th.

Toro Rosso tester Neel Jani spun his Toro Rosso into the gravel trap on the outside of the circuit while exiting Priory corner in an incident almost identical to that of his compatriot Giorgio Mondini in the earlier session.

And Red Bull's Christian Klien was another driver to be caught out by Silverstone's slippery track surface as he suffered a double spin at the same point just minutes later.
