TWG to discuss equivalency formula

Formula One's Technical Working Group will discuss the engine equivalency formula when they meet ahead of the San Marino Grand Prix

The FIA, however, has denied it has plans to make changes following complaints from Toro Rosso's rivals.

As revealed by autosport.com, the Midland and Super Aguri teams have written to the FIA asking that Toro Rosso are excluded from scoring points in the constructors' championship because they are using a V10 engine which they claim is giving the Red Bull-owned team an advantage.

Despite speculation that the current equivalency formula is set to be tweaked, an FIA spokesman said the governing body had not already decided to make a change, but admitted the TWG would discuss the issue when they meet ahead of the Imola race.

Toro Rosso boss Franz Tost reiterated the team would respect the FIA's decision if the formula was changed, but said they had not heard anything from the governing body despite their rivals' unhappiness at the situation.

"All I can say is we respect whatever the FIA decides," Tost told autosport.com during testing in Barcelona. "It does not matter what other teams say.

"I have not heard anything, no one has told me. It is up to FIA if they wish to change the rate of restriction and I will obey the rules.

"I respect whatever they decide, but the current restriction was done on clear and precise investigation and the FIA were then happy. But if they tell me of course I will respect that."

Toro Rosso have a contract to use Cosworth's V10 engines until the end of 2007, and Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz said earlier this week they plan to respect the contract.
