Biaggi set for more Midland tests

MotoGP refugee Max Biaggi looks certain to be handed another test with Midland in the near future as the Italian continues to be linked to a switch to cars

Biaggi's recent test with Midland at Silverstone was washed-out by rain, but team managing director Colin Kolles has said they are working on getting him out in one of their cars again soon.

"I've read that Max Biaggi would like to give F1 driving lessons to Valentino Rossi. Well, we'll try to meet his wishes," said Kolles in Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We've known Biaggi for many years, we knew of his wish to measure himself in F1, so we contacted him for the first test.

"Unfortunately the test was made incredibly difficult by the weather conditions, hence the idea of giving him a second chance, which will have to be a real test, probably in Spain. At the moment we're working in that direction."

Although Biaggi was widely quoted this week as cheekily suggesting he could offer some driving lessons to arch rival Valentino Rossi, Kolles said the Italian is serious about making a success of his efforts on four wheels.

"Max wants to get in the car in order to test his sensations and measure himself with something he's attracted to but knows little about, and on top of that the guy is thinking about his future and is looking around," added Kolles.

"Besides the quip about driving lessons for Valentino Rossi, we are available for him. That's why in the following weeks there might be some surprises.

"On top of that, the rivalry between them is extremely exciting; who knows, we might be able to have them face each other on a Friday before a Grand Prix. There's nothing definitive for now, but we're working and in the next few days some situations might develop which I can't talk about now."

There has been speculation in the last week that Biaggi could make a switch to race in the DTM - a series that Kolles believes could be useful for gaining car racing experience.

"If I was to confirm my involvement in the DTM, I'd see it as an opportunity to make experiments, to get the necessary racing experience for someone like Biaggi, or for a girl."

Biaggi himself has confirmed that he will not be involved in either MotoGP or Superbikes next year - but said his future remain opened.

"I'm in a transitional period," he said. "At the moment we are assessing various opportunities, but I will definitely not be either in MotoGP or in Superbikes, which is about to start. However, I hope to be back in 2007.

"To drive the Midland F1 car was a fantastic and exciting experience, even though the track conditions were abysmal, as it was raining and it was very cold. But after all, at Silverstone in January, you couldn't expect much.

"These are two very different worlds, everybody knows that, but I'm glad Midland appreciate my collaboration. At the moment, however, I'm not able to make programmes for the future. Maybe we'll decide to do some more tests but there isn't anything officially decided.

"I noticed that Valentino Rossi has been good on the Ferrari. Of course, it's easy to make mistakes in the wet and at the beginning he had some problems. To be competitive immediately on four wheels is hard."
