Herbert enjoying second F1 chance

Midland sporting relations manager Johnny Herbert has admitted that he is relishing his return to Formula One - even though he misses the driving

The former Grand Prix driver has been drafted in to help the new Midland outfit with their assault on F1 and he loves being back in the sport.

"It was interesting getting back into F1 again," he said on the Central Stage at the Autosport International Show. "The sport is always revolving and it is nice to do something a bit different."

Although Midland had a tough time this year following their buyout of Jordan Grand Prix, Herbert claims that the team are on course to make some improvements this season.

"My job is to liase with the press, the drivers, the mechanics and the engineers and to get the image of Midland up, because it came into Jordan which unfortunately wasn't competitive.

"The car was effectively three years old but now we have a new car, we have the new Toyota V8 engine, the new gearbox which runs in a week or so and then our new car comes in February.

"They have shown determination that they want to compete, but you need to do that for more than one year."

And Herbert admitted that he would even consider testing one of Midland's cars if he was asked to.

"I miss driving F1 cars, although I am not particularly bothered if I drive one or not. I have been there and done it, but if Midland ever offered me a run I would probably say yes."
