Pau 2: Lapierre's chaotic win
Nicolas Lapierre scored his first race win in the 2004 Formula 3 Euro Series at Pau on Monday in the 64th Pau Grand Prix
On home ground, the Frenchman's Team Signature-Plus Dallara-Opel beat Robert Kubica (Mucke Motorsport Dallara-Mercedes) and series leader Jamie Green (ASM Dallara-Mercedes).
Sunday's race winner Alexandre Premat (ASM) led, but collided with the Manor-run Dallara-Mercedes of Charles Zwolsman, who had gone off the track at Foch on the previous lap. During the accident he injured both himself and a marshal, but their injuries are not believed to be serious. Premat was reprimanded by stewards for ignoring yellow flags.
Just before the Safety Car period, Nico Rosberg (Team Rosberg Dallara-Opel) went out of the race promoting Kubica to second place behind Lapierre. Green had to pass team-mate Eric Salignon for third place, and scored his sixth podium of the season.
"For the first two laps I had very pronounced oversteer," said Lapierre. "After Alex had his accident, I was able to control the race. Even so it wasn't easy, because on a street circuit like Pau you still have to make it to the chequered flag."
