Barber IndyCar: Power leads as Penske fills top three spots
Will Power topped the timesheets in the third practice session for IndyCar's Barber Motorsports Park round
Power set a 1m06.995s, the fastest time of the weekend so far, to lead the way, joined at the top by Penske team-mates Josef Newgarden and Helio Castroneves after they made late improvements.
Newgarden got closest, but wound up 0.104 seconds slower than Power and could not join him in the 1m06s bracket.
Schmidt Peterson Motorsports' Mikhail Aleshin was fourth and the top Honda driver, setting a lap just 0.265s slower than Power despite a slight excursion at Turn 1 in the early stages.
Simon Pagenaud was unable to help Penske lock out the top four positions for the second time this weekend, setting the fifth fastest time of the session.
James Hinchcliffe finished sixth, setting a time just 0.0004s slower than Pagenaud to put both Schmidt Peterson entries into the top six.
Ganassi's Scott Dixon was seventh fastest by a mere 0.005s from Marco Andretti, who was fastest in the second practice session on Friday.
The top 10 was completed by Graham Rahal and Max Chilton, with Ryan Hunter-Reay just missing out after a large spin at Turn 14 in the closing stages.
The Andretti Autosport driver spun back onto the track, narrowly avoiding the oncoming Hinchcliffe.
Ed Carpenter Racing endured a trying morning, as both Spencer Pigot and Zach Veach had off-track moments, but a cleaner 45 minutes ensured that - unlike Friday's sessions - no red flags were brought out.
Conor Daly's running was delayed, as electrical issues hit his Chevrolet-powered AJ Foyt Racing entry at the start of the session.
