IndyCar unveils concepts for new 2018 aero package
IndyCar has revealed a series of concept drawings outlining how the championship's new bodywork might look next year
Dallara has penned an extension to its IndyCar chassis supply deal, with the IR-12 introduced in 2012 to remain the backbone of the series through to '20.
The series will introduce a new standard aerodynamic kit in 2018, replacing the packages developed by Chevrolet and Honda.
Work on the update is underway, with IndyCar's president of competition and operations Jay Frye showing off visuals at the North American International Auto Show on Thursday.
The most striking aspect - besides the car's overall resemblance to an updated and larger version of Dallara's IL15 Indy Lights car - is the removal of the air trumpet over the driver's head, which has allowed a low engine cover and sleeker rear bodywork.
Further updates will be shown at IndyCar's 2017 pre-season test at Phoenix next month, with a view to having a car on display during May's Indianapolis 500 before testing starts in summer.
"Dallara's continued participation in our sport provides IndyCar and our competitors a tremendous amount of confidence," said Frye.
"Dallara has been an instrumental partner in the Verizon IndyCar Series for 20 years and we are excited to extend our relationship with them."
