Double Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Cammish graduates to Supercup

Two-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Dan Cammish will graduate full-time to the Supercup next season

Two-time Porsche Carrera Cup GB champion Dan Cammish will graduate full-time to the Supercup next season.

The 27-year-old Briton will drive for reigning champion team Lechner Racing in Porsche's Formula 1 support series.

He will dovetail his first international campaign with a bid for a third consecutive Porsche title at home with Redline Racing.

Cammish has raced in the British round of the Supercup at Silverstone in each of the past two seasons, and contested four rounds of the German Carrera Cup in 2015 with the Konrad Motorsport team.

"This is massive, it's the biggest opportunity of my career," he told Autosport.

"It's quite amazing to think a couple of years ago I was close to being out of the sport - I didn't know where to move to next and thought about retiring altogether.

"Then I got picked up by Tim Harvey and my career started then really."

After winning the two Porsche titles, Cammish considered a move to touring cars before then trying to secure a Supercup seat.

"I picked up the phone for Walter [Lechner] and he said 'if you can get me this kind of budget, I will get you in,'" said Cammish.

"So I worked on putting a deal together and I'm really looking forward to getting started."

Joining the Supercup full-time as it switches to the second-generation of the 991-shape 911 GT3 Cup car, Cammish is under no illusions about the challenge ahead, including learning new tracks.

"I'm going there to win but I'm open and realistic about it," he said.

"It's the biggest challenge I will have faced - it's at a level that's extremely high."
