Mexico World Endurance Championship: Porsche tops practice day

Neel Jani ended the session fastest in the #2 Porsche 919 Hybrid with a 1m25.810s lap that eclipsed Andre Lotterer's first session best by nearly a second.

Swiss driver Jani's lap, set early in the 90-minute session, was more than two tenths up on the 1m26.058s recorded by team-mate Brendon Hartley in the sister car

Loic Duval ended up third in the best of the Audi R18 e-tron quattros with a 1m26.520s lap.

Lotterer moved to within a couple of tenths of his team-mate right at the end of the session courtesy of a 1m26.688s.

The only Toyota TS050 HYBRID taking part in Thursday's free practice session was just over a second from the pace with a 1m26.941s from Sebastien Buemi.

Bruno Senna led the way in LMP2 with a 1m35.507s lap aboard the RGR Sport Ligier-Nissan JSP2.

That time put him a couple of hundredths up on the second-placed G-Drive ORECA-Nissan 05, in which Rene Rast posted a 1m35.530s

Nicki Thiim again led the way in GTE Pro in the best of the Aston Martin Racing entries.

His 1m40.477s was less than a tenth up on Darren Turner in the second of the Vantage GTEs.

The British Gulf Racing Porsche team again headed the order in GTE Am, this time with Ben Barker setting the pace.

His 1m42.321s eclipsed the session best of Porsche factory driver Pat Long aboard the Abu Dhabi-Proton entry by more than two tenths.
