Colin Turkington to start first Silverstone BTCC race from the back
Former British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington will start the next round of the series at Silverstone from the back of the grid after picking up a third reprimand of the season
The Subaru Team BMR driver hit trouble with race officials twice at Rockingham last weekend, picking up a six-second penalty in race one for overtaking Josh Cook with all four wheels over the white line at the edge of the track.
The grid penalty for Silverstone was triggered when Turkington was adjudged to have passed Jake Hill's Toyota as the yellow flags came out for a safety car in race three.
"I am absolutely gutted about this, because both Rockingham incidents are relatively minor and they are going to make things tough," said Turkington.
"I felt I had been squeezed onto the grass by Josh, but they didn't see it that way.
"In race three, I was side-by-side with Jake racing for the line.
"I felt we were level, but Jake's bumper must have been ahead of me by a fraction of a millimetre.
"It is very hard for me to judge those things when you are strapped in the car."
Turkington had picked up a penalty for an incident with Rob Collard at the last meeting at Knockhill too, which was the first of his three infringements.
"Our car excels on tracks that are chassis dependant, so Silverstone will be hard," he said.
"There aren't many corners to pass on. The title will be tough, but we will keep on pushing."
Turkington will be joined at the back of the grid for the first Silverstone race by Mark Howard, who also picked up his third reprimand in race three, while Jeff Smith served the same penalty on Sunday following a collision in race two.
