Kevin Magnussen says he'll be fit for Italian GP after Spa F1 crash

Magnussen was involved in a horrific crash on lap six of the Belgian Grand Prix as the Dane lost control of his Renault at the top of Eau Rouge before hurtling into a tyre wall on the opposite side of the track at Raidillon.

Following a routine visit to the Spa medical centre, Magnussen was then taken to nearby Verviers hospital for x-rays and scans, but has since been released with a cut to his left ankle.

Magnussen will undergo a routine check by the FIA medical delegate at Monza on Thursday, but at this stage it is understood there should be no complications.

Via his Twitter feed, Magnussen said: "Thanks for all your messages folks! On my way home with a sore ankle but will be ready for Monza."

Team principal Fred Vasseur told Autosport: "Kev went to the medical centre at the track, and with a cut to his ankle they sent him to the hospital for an x-ray and a scan. The feedback is positive.

"His physio [Thomas Jorgensen] was with him, has spoken to him and he has said he looks OK, that's it's positive, and that's the most important thing."

Vasseur declined to speculate too much on the cause of the accident pending a full investigation by the team.

"I saw the incident once on the TV, and then we had a red flag," added Vasseur.

"I have the feeling he had huge wheelspin on the kerb.

"I don't know why, whether it was too much on the kerb or not.

"But let's see about the reasons. We have to take time to analyse exactly what has happened."

Asked whether he felt it may have been driver error, Vasseur replied: "No, I will never blame a driver for this. I don't want to speak about this.

"First we need to know exactly what happened and then we will talk about it."

Vasseur said preparing a car for Magnussen to race at Monza following the damage sustained in the accident would be "tricky" but he is confident Renault can have a chassis built up in time.
