Race of Champions to be held in Miami Marlins Park stadium

The 2017 Race of Champions will take place in Miami, marking the first time the event has been held in America

The non-championship event pits drivers from different motorsport disciplines against one another in identical machinery, and last year took place inside London's Olympic Stadium.

But the event has been moved for next year's running, with the 37,000-seater Marlins Park stadium, usually occupied by the Miami Marlins baseball team, playing host to competition on the January 21-22 weekend.

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Sebastian Vettel won the individual element of the event last year and will defend his crown in America.

Former NASCAR Cup winner Kurt Busch and 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay will compete on home soil.

"I'm honoured to once again be invited to the Race Of Champions," said Busch, who reached the quarter finals of the event in 2014.

"Given that this year's event will be in the US, it will make it that much more exciting; representing the US in my country will be special.

Hunter-Reay added: "I'm delighted to be making my fourth straight appearance at the Race of Champions - and especially this time with the event taking place on American soil.

"It's a spectacular event and a unique challenge to jump in and out of all the different cars as you go head-to-head with some of the best drivers in the world, it is a tremendous honour to be selected as a competitor for RoC.

"I'm proud to represent America, IndyCar and the Indy 500 and I look forward to hearing the noise of the crowds in Miami."

In a reverse of the 2015 format, the Race of Champions drivers' competition will take place on Saturday 21, with the Nations Cup element concluding proceedings a day later.

"We are thrilled to be bringing the Race of Champions to the United States at last," added RoC President Fredrik Johnsson.

"Miami's Marlins Park is a wonderful venue and it's our first time inside a baseball stadium.

"American race fans are passionate about their sport and I'm sure they will enjoy the great competition and shows we put on.

"We look forward to welcoming a packed crowd to enjoy the sight of some of the world's best drivers battling it out."
