WRC Rally Germany: Volkswagen's Ogier cruises as Hyundais charge
Sebastien Ogier is cruising towards his first World Rally Championship win since February in Germany, but in his wake Dani Sordo, Thierry Neuville and Andreas Mikkelsen are grappling over second
The Hyundais were the pacesetters on Sunday morning, going first and second fastest on both the first two stages of the final day.
Volkswagen driver Mikkelsen struggled to match them, and lost second to Sordo when the Spaniard set the pace on Dhrontal and third to Neuville when the Belgian went quickest on Sauertal.
The second pass of Dhrontal was then cancelled due to spectator overcrowding, leaving Sordo, Neuville and Mikkelsen covered by just 4.1 seconds heading onto the deciding powerstage later on Sunday.
Ogier was content with sixth and fourth fastest times, leaving his lead over Sordo standing at 20.3s.
Hayden Paddon and Mads Ostberg complete the top six.
Stephane Lefebvre and co-driver Gabin Moreau remain in hospital following their violent crash on Saturday.
While further details of Lefebvre's injuries are still awaited, Moreau issued a statement saying he had a broken right foot, fractured right tibia, broken left hand, damaged collarbone and cracked vertebra.
He also thanked rally organisers and rescue teams for their efforts after the accident and fans and the World Rally Championship community for their support, adding that he remained in good spirits.
