Honda BTCC driver Matt Neal to contest Benelux TCR round
British Touring Car Championship driver Matt Neal will race in the Benelux TCR Championship this weekend at the wheel of Boutsen-Ginion Honda Civic
Currently second in the BTCC standings, Neal was invited by Honda to tackle the three races at Zolder, in support of the 24-hour Belcar race.
The three-time BTCC champion will use the same type of car that has been raced in the category by World Touring Car Championship drivers Nobert Michelisz and Tiago Monteiro.
The Boutsen-Ginion squad is leading the teams' championship.
Drivers team up to take part in a qualifying race, where the grid is set by a public vote on Facebook, and competitors then get two solo races over the course of the weekend.
Neal will be sharing with points leader Stephane Lemeret for the qualifying.
"It is nice to be invited, although I had absolutely no idea what to expect," said Neal.
"I have seen the races so I know they are competitive, but my first time in the car will be during the qualifying race, so that will be interesting.
"I have raced at Zolder before, but that was back in the European Touring Car Championship days, so that was 15 years ago. It will be a fun weekend though."
