Mid-Ohio IndyCar: Dixon fastest again as Chevrolet dominates
Reigning IndyCar champion Scott Dixon completed the third Mid-Ohio practice session fastest as he led a Chevrolet-dominated session for the Chip Ganassi team
The practice-one pacesetter continued to look comfortable around the circuit, and pumped in a weekend-quickest 1m03.7244s lap - 0.1694 seconds quicker than Penske's championship leader Simon Pagenaud.
Will Power was also quick in third ahead of Josef Newgarden, while Tony Kanaan and Max Chilton made it three Ganassi Dallara-Chevrolets in the top six.
For much of the 45-minute session, Graham Rahal was the only Honda-powered car in the top 10, and he went on to finish quickest of the Hondas in seventh 0.3520s down on Dixon's time.
James Hinchcliffe and Ryan Hunter-Reay were the only other two Honda-powered drivers to make the top 10, in ninth and 10th.
The Penske pair of Juan Pablo Montoya and Helio Castroneves struggled, only managing 12th and 14th respectively.
Turn 4 was the area on track that seemed to catch the drivers out most - first Spencer Pigot went sliding into the gravel backwards after getting the corner wrong.
That caused a brief red flag interlude and a time only good enough for 16th for Pigot, before Jack Hawksworth was forced to save a wobble through the same turn later on, on his way to 20th.
Conor Daly caused a session-ending red flag with an off, but hadn't been able to better 19th.
