F1 drivers want clarity on yellow flag rules after Hungarian GP

Several Formula 1 drivers have called for clarity on yellow flags with the subject set to be discussed at their Friday briefing

Nico Rosberg kept his Hungarian Grand Prix pole position after proving to the stewards that he had lifted sufficiently under the double waved yellows for Fernando Alonso's spin at the end of Q3.

"The rule says that you have to be prepared to stop and it's hard to explain to people how you can manage to qualify on top with that," said Kimi Raikkonen.

"For the future it would be much better for all of us if it could be more or less the same way of how we look at things."

Hamilton approached FIA over Rosberg pole lap

Jenson Button added: "In a double waved yellow zone you wouldn't expect people could go quicker in their laptime.

"If there's a car facing the wrong way on the racing line you've got to be prepared to stop, not lift off more on the entry and go quicker on the exit.

"We'll always push the boundaries, so there has to be a rule in place so we all do the same thing."

But Sebastian Vettel believes drivers should continue to lift saying: "After what happened last week, we shouldn't change our mindset.

"It should still remain the same in terms of that you are aware someone's in trouble, marshals might be on the track to help him, whatever, so you should be aware of that and be prepared to lift. That's it.

"We need to discuss on Friday and hopefully we will find a common agreement to move forwards."

Daniel Ricciardo said: "It's something we're still going to talk about, discuss and make a bit more clear.

"There needs to be a big difference [between a response to a single and double yellow]."

When asked if he thinks other drivers will copy Rosberg's approach, Max Verstappen said: "Maybe everybody will think that because Nico still got his lap in we can all do that as well.

"But if the FIA is clear and says that's not possible and you have to back off, then it is all clear again."

However, Alonso does not see any issue with the rules.

"I have been racing 16 years in Formula 1 and 31 in motorsport and we have always had a single yellow and a double yellow and there have never been any issues apart from when you are fighting for the world championship and apart from when Nico is doing it," he said.

"So I don't see a problem, it was not a problem, it will not be any problem in the future - there is no need for any clarification in my opinion."
