GP2 Hungaroring: Red Bull's Gasly fastest in first practice

Prema's Red Bull protege Pierre Gasly was comfortably quickest in GP2 practice at the Hungaroring

Fresh from finally ending his long win drought at Silverstone last time out and then testing Red Bull's Formula 1 car afterwards, Gasly was swiftly underneath last year's pole time on the resurfaced track with a 1m27.827s.

Sergey Sirotkin briefly nipped in front of him, before Gasly responded with a 1m27.138s that put him half a second clear.

Williams F1 development driver Alex Lynn cut that gap a little when he jumped up from sixth to second in the closing moments, showing much more encouraging form for DAMS after a troubled Silverstone weekend.

ART driver Sirotkin ended up third, while team-mate Nobuharu Matsushita - like Lynn, a 2015 Hungaroring GP2 winner - was fifth behind Raffaele Marciello's Russian Time car.

Norman Nato completed the top six, with current first and second men in the championship Oliver Rowland and Antonio Giovinazzi seventh and eighth.

Luca Ghiotto made a late move from the lower reaches to ninth, ahead of Sergio Canamasas, who provided much of the morning's entertainment with a series of aggressively oversteering, kerb-clambering laps and eventually a spin.
