F3 champ and Indy Lights racer Rosenqvist gets Ganassi IndyCar test

Indy Lights racer and reigning Formula 3 European champion Felix Rosenqvist will make his IndyCar test debut with Chip Ganassi Racing at Mid-Ohio this week

The Swede, who won both Indy Lights races at Toronto last weekend, will join the championship winning team for the single-day test on Thursday.

"This is an incredible opportunity for me," said Rosenqvist.

"IndyCar is the biggest and fastest racing series in America, and it's every driver's dream to be given a chance like this - and I intend to make the most of it.

"It's especially thrilling to be doing this with Chip Ganassi Racing, a top team steeped in history that I grew up following on TV.

"Hopefully I can do a solid job and I'm sure this will be a truly unique experience."

Rosenqvist sits seventh in the Indy Lights points, having missed two rounds so far due to clashing commitments with Mercedes in the DTM and GT racing.

FRIJNS WOULD TAKE INDYCAR OFFER
By Bruce Martin

Rosenqvist will be joined at the test by another newcomer in the form of Formula E and GT racer Robin Frijns, who will test for Andretti Autosport.

"It's a new car, a new track - there's a lot to learn and I have to get used to it," said Frijns, who drives for Andretti in FE.

"It's been a while since I drove a really high downforce car - I have to go back to the Formula 1 days.

"There's lots of new things I'm not used to - hopefully I'll learn a lot before I jump in the car.

"Of course I want to be competitive, but with one day to learn everything, it's quite tough."

Frijns added that IndyCar would appeal as a career move if the opportunity ever arose.

"If everything goes well, maybe I will have an opportunity next year or in a few years' time," he said.

"It's the Formula 1 of America, so it's the highest level you can achieve and that's a good thing.

"If I have the opportunity to jump in for a full season, I will."
