Le Mans 24 Hours: Toyota and Porsche battle builds in 20th hour
Toyota and Porsche went wheel-to-wheel for the lead of the Le Mans 24 Hours as their battle intensified in the 20th hour
The #5 Toyota gave up the lead when it pitted for new tyres and a driver change, while Marc Lieb stayed in the #2 Porsche to lead by around seven seconds after his own stop.
But Anthony Davidson - taking over from Sebastien Buemi in the #5 - chipped away at that margin on fresh tyres, passing the Porsche on track for the lead at Mulsanne corner just before 11am.
The #6 Toyota remained a part of the tight three-way battle as well, with Kamui Kobayashi also making up ground on Lieb after taking over from Mike Conway.
Both Lieb and Kobayashi pitted just before the end of the hour, with Davidson set to make his own stop the following lap.
Audi's hopes of picking up the pieces of any problems for the leaders suffered a serious blow when its lead car was forced into the garage after slowing out on track.
Oliver Jarvis brought the #8 R18 back to the pits slowly, where it remained at the top of the hour with work being carried out to change a brake disc.
LMP2 - SIGNATECH GETS ITS LAP BACK
By Mitchell Adam
The Signatech Alpine is a lap clear of the field in LMP2, with four hours remaining.
Its advantage over the second-placed G-Drive ORECA has been varying this morning based on when the two teams have pitted for driver and/or tyre changes, as opposed to simply topping up with fuel.
The gap in the 19th hour was as small as two minutes when Signatech made a driver change, but returned to a lap when Rene Rast was replaced in the G-Drive entry by Will Stevens in the 20th hour.
After his latest stop for fuel, Stevens emerge a lap down and behind Menezes on the road.
Vitaly Petrov has elevated SMP Racing back to third since taking the #37 BR01 over from Victor Shaytar, catching, passing and then pulling 82s clear of the Strakka Gibson driven by Nick Leventis, who jumped into the car after Jonny Kane's stint.
Eurasia Motorsport is still fifth ahead of Greaves Motorsport, but the #31 Extreme Speed Motorsport Ligier is in pitlane and dropping down the order from seventh in the class, with a broken right-rear rocker.
GTE - FORD EDGES AHEAD
By Scott Mitchell and Jack Cozens
Ford finally reclaimed the lead in GTE Pro after the Risi Ferrari team's resistance was broken.
Joey Hand caught and passed Matteo Malucelli to overhaul the 488 GTE in the #68 Ford, after that car spent the last few hours playing predator.
He then eked a few seconds clear before stopping at the end of the hour.
While Hand remained in his Ford, Malucelli handed over the Risi car to Toni Vilander, who rejoined seven seconds behind.
The #69 Ford, now being driven by Ryan Briscoe, is still two-and-a-half minutes off the lead, while the #95 Aston Martin Racing Vantage remains fourth.
Townsend Bell continues to lead in the GTE Am category and remains a lap clear of the rest of the pack in the #62 Scuderia Corsa car.
AF Corse Ferrari driver Rui Aguas inherited second when the #88 Porsche pitted, but with Patrick Long returning to driving duties in the Abu Dhabi-Proton 911 RSR he soon regained second in the #88 car.
