Lammers to race against former team-mate Brundle in Le Mans support

Sportscar legend Jan Lammers will compete against former TWR-Jaguar team-mate Martin Brundle in the main support race at next month's Le Mans 24 Hours

The pair of former winners of the 24 Hours with Jaguar will compete in the 'Road to Le Mans' event for GT3 and LMP3 machinery at the wheel of Ligier-Nissan JSP3s.

Lammers will go up against Sky Formula 1 commentator Brundle's United Autosport car in a Ligier entered under the Racing for Holland flag he flew in nine of his 22 Le Mans starts.

He will share the car with Bernhard van Oranje-Nassau, a member of the Dutch royal family whom he has previously tutored and raced with.

The car will be run by the Davytec team run by former Racing for Holland chief mechanic Davy Lemmens.

Lammers, who turns 60 ahead of the race, told Autosport: "I'm extremely happy to get back to Le Mans and sure it is going to be fun racing against Martin again.

"We'll both be looking to give our team-mates as much seat time as possible in practice, but when it comes down to qualifying it will be down to us."

Lammers revealed that he hoped his presence in the support race could lead to a first appearance in the 24 Hours since 2011.

"Bernhard has racing at Le Mans on his bucket list, so you never know where it might lead," he explained.

The Ligier is owned by Frits van Eerd, with whom Lammers had plans to do this year's 24 Hours.

A total of 39 cars are entered for the race, which is also the second round of the Michelin-sponsored Le Mans GT3 Cup.

Eleven entrants in the series are joined by a further six GT3 cars, including a second Aston Martin Vantage V12 for round one winners TF Sport.

A total of 22 LMP3 cars are on the entry.

They include the United Autosports Ligier that Brundle will share with son Alex's regular team-mate in the European Le Mans Series, Christian England.

Ginetta Cars boss Lawrence Tomlinson has entered one of his company's P3 chassis for himself and an undisclosed team-mate.

Murphy Prototypes will field the Ligier it raced at the most recent ELMS event at Imola for Tony Ave and Doug Peterson, who will switch to the forthcoming Ave-Riley AR-2 for the Red Bull Ring round in July.
