Ocon to get more Renault Friday outings

Renault reserve driver Esteban Ocon says he will get more running in Formula 1 free practice sessions this season

The GP3 champion got his first opportunity of the season last weekend in Spain, but his Friday running was cut short following a puncture and a battery issue.

He had a more productive day when he drove for Renault on the first day of the in-season testing at Barcelona, completing 105 laps.

When asked by Autosport if he would get more chances in FP1, he said: "Yes. I know how many but I can't tell you. I will have a few."

Whether he will replace Jolyon Palmer or Kevin Magnussen has yet to be decided.

GP2 racer Nicholas Latifi, who joined as a test driver this year, will take part in at least one Friday session in 2016.

Fellow test driver Sergey Sirotin expects further FP1 opportunities after he drove for Renault in Russia.

Ocon will be back on track on Wednesday when he drives for Mercedes, with which he retains links.

Ocon said he was pleased with the mileage he achieved on Tuesday.

"It's good to finally be running with decent mileage," he said. "It's important for me and important for the team to get a lot of laps.

"I'm looking forward to Wednesday, driving again a F1 car I can only be happy.

"It's going to be full of information for me, I will be mega eyes open and checking everything I can.

"It's a big opportunity. At Renault, they have been winning titles and races not so long ago we must not forget so both teams are great.

"I'm working to get a seat for next year. I don't know if it's going to happen or not but it's my target."
