Kvyat sees 'no reason' for Red Bull F1 swap with Verstappen

Daniil Kvyat says he does not "see any reason" why he has been demoted from the Red Bull Formula 1 team to Toro Rosso

Between the Russian and Spanish GPs, Red Bull opted to promote Max Verstappen to its lead F1 team, with Kvyat sent back to Toro Rosso.

Speaking for the first time since the decision, Kvyat said it "was a bit of a shock", and that the news delivered over the phone by Helmut Marko came without a major explanation.

"There was no real explanation," Kvyat said.

"If the bosses want something to happen they just make it happen

"I feel like I did everything for the team, bringing in the points, doing development work.

"We've been working well together, so it's a question for other people who made the decision and who can give a better answer to that.

"So I really don't see any reason."

Kvyat joined Red Bull last year after a single season in F1 with Toro Rosso, on the back of winning the GP3 title in 2013.

The 22-year-old dismissed the notion that he had been promoted too early.

"I don't think so, if you look at what happened three weeks ago when I was standing on the podium," Kvyat said, referring to the Chinese GP.

"But the bosses made their decision, I have to accept it and do the best job possible with Toro Rosso.

"I've learned quite a lot the last few days, the last few weeks which has made me very strong.

"I'm looking forward to showing that at Toro Rosso now, a team that supports me, a team I feel we've a lot of unfinished business together and I think we should finish it together."

ENTERING F1 A BIGGER RISK FOR VERSTAPPEN

Verstappen, naturally, declined to be drawn on whether he felt Kvyat deserved to be moved out of Red Bull.

Moving to partner Daniel Ricciardo four grands prix later in his fledgling career than Kvyat did at the start of 2015, Verstappen feels there was more risk entering F1 last year after a single season in Formula 3, than there is in this switch.

"I'm very happy with the chance they have given to me," he said.

"Racing for a top team was always the plan, what I wanted to do.

"With the risk, to be honest it was a bigger risk to be so young in F1, but I have handled it pretty well.

"From now on it's just about getting used to a new car, which is not easy in the season but already with the things I have done in the factory, they have given me a lot of confidence."
