Nissan V8 Supercars team signs Russell Ingall for endurance races

Two-time Bathurst 1000 winner Russell Ingall will complete a unique V8 Supercars hat-trick in this year's endurance races

Ingall has signed a deal to race for Nissan Motorsport alongside Rick Kelly in the two-driver Sandown, Bathurst and Gold Coast races.

When he lines up for September's Sandown 500, Ingall will have driven for three different brands in the series in three events, over the course of 11 months.

The 2005 series champion essentially retired at the end of the 2014 season, but received a late call-up from the Holden Racing Team to replace the injured James Courtney at Sandown and Bathurst last year.

When Courtney returned, Ingall was then summoned by the Ford Prodrive Racing outfit to stand in for Chaz Mostert on the Gold Coast.

Ingall tested with Kelly's Nissan team at Winton last week, quickly agreeing to a deal to extend his 250-event V8 Supercars career.

"It was halfway through the day after the second run that it was confirmed in everyone's mind that let's do a deal," Ingall said.

"Rick came up to me and said, 'What do you think?' I liked the car and felt comfortable in it.

"I got up to speed relatively easily without hanging the thing off the wall, and that was basically it. It was a handshake then and there, as easy as that.

"We've known each other and raced against each other for a number of years, I think we've got mutual respect for each other inside and outside the car.

"It's great to be able to join forces in the three biggest events in the year and with a genuine chance at coming out with getting a result as well."
