Rob Collard battles past Mat Jackson to win Donington BTCC race two
Rob Collard became the fifth different winner in the five 2016 British Touring Car Championship races so far with victory in his WSR BMW 125i M Sport at Donington Park
The 47-year-old leapt from sixth to third with an audacious move around the outside the opening turn of race two.
He tracked earlier winner Mat Jackson's Motorbase Performance Ford Focus and Tom Ingram's Toyota Avensis in the opening stages.
Collard passed Ingram for second on the back straight at two-thirds distance and then sliced inside Jackson for first place going into the chicane four tours later.
"I was delighted with the way the race went," said Collard.
"I probably haven't got many years left at this level, and the fact I can still pull off moves like that makes me very happy indeed.
"The car was awesome all the way through and I am thrilled."
Jackson was pleased with second place, saying that he wasn't going to fight a faster car.
"This is a long championship, and Rob was on fire," said the Ford Focus driver. "This puts us in with a shout of a good start in the reversed grid race too."
Jackson has now moved to the head of the points table.
Behind them, Ingram's race fell apart when he, Jack Goff and Aron Smith went into the chicane side-by-side on lap 13 of 19.
Ingram was spat onto the grass, Goff was delayed and Smith jumped ahead for third place.
BKR Volkswagen driver Smith held on from Gordon Shedden's Team Dynamics Honda over some tense closing laps.
Further back, Goff held off Shedden's team-mate Matt Neal to the flag for fifth and sixth.
Josh Cook's MG was forced to defend hard over the closing stages for seventh, ahead of a train including Sam Tordoff (who will be reverse grid polesitter in race three), Aiden Moffat and Rob Austin.
