Eurotech adds third Honda for Lloyd after Neate's BTCC exit

GT driver Dan Lloyd will switch to the British Touring Car Championship from the next rounds at Thruxton onwards with the Eurotech Racing Honda squad

Lloyd, who was a race winner in the Porsche Carrera Cup in 2013, will race a Civic Type R.

Series officials have given Eurotech Racing the TOCA BTCC licence to compete after Andy Neate was forced to withdraw his entry with the Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type R last week.

Lloyd, 24, said: "I tested with the team ahead of the season in the wet at Brands Hatch and I was immediately impressed with the way it operated.

"I have been looking to do the British Touring Car Championship for a long, long time and it is the biggest championship in the country.

"It is going to be a step into the unknown for me to start with, but I want to get familiar with the car quickly and be challenging for podiums - although starting at Thruxton is going to be an eye-opener.

"I need to gain confidence, but with the crew around me I am sure that won't take long."

Lloyd competed in selected races in the Blancpain Endurance Series, including the Spa 24 Hours, in 2015.

He also contested a part-season in British GT, finishing on the podium at Rockingham in an Aston Martin.

The Huddersfield racer's previous front-wheel-drive experience, aside from Renault Clios, is finishing third in the Scirocco R-Cup in 2011 with two victories.

Team principal Jeff Smith, who also races for the Eurotech team alongside Martin Depper, said: "This is exactly the situation we wanted the team to find itself in.

"It is vital for our future that we have a strong, young driver who will help push the entire programme forwards.

"Dan is keen to help Martin and myself move up the grid and we can all learn lessons from each other.

"This is an important step for Eurotech Racing."

Lloyd will begin his campaign in Hampshire on May 7/8.
