Stefano Comini wants chance in the British Touring Car Championship

Inaugural TCR International Series champion Stefano Comini says it is his ambition to compete in the British Touring Car Championship.

The Italian-Swiss, who clinched the TCR crown at last month's Macau Guia event with a Target Competition SEAT, sees his future in the global series, but says he loves the competitiveness of the BTCC.

"I want to do a BTCC round," Comini told Autosport. "This is one of my dreams.

"I have a lot of respect for BTCC - really more than the World Touring Car Championship, which is boring now. BTCC is a proper touring car championship."

Comini dominated the 2011 Eurocup Megane Trophy on the World Series by Renault package and was targeting GT1, but the demise of that category meant he had no option other than to step back into Clio racing.

He then emerged from the SEAT Leon Eurocup, the cars from which formed the bulk of the grids in the initial season of TCR, to defeat recognised international tin-top aces Jordi Gene, Pepe Oriola and Honda's Gianni Morbidelli.

Comini said that it was not such a big deal to beat those drivers.

"I knew before I was fast, and every time you race you always have a good driver to beat," he said.

"Every car I ever drove I was fighting for a podium or a victory. The only thing that changed for me is that this time I was driving all around the world."

Former WTCC champion Rob Huff, who guested in a TCR Honda in the Macau finale and won the first race, described Comini as "a very worthy champion".
