Valencia MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo fastest in second practice

MotoGP title contender Jorge Lorenzo moved to the front in second practice for the Valencia Grand Prix, with his Yamaha team-mate and championship rival Valentino Rossi fourth

Marc Marquez and Rossi were the main protagonists in the early part of the session, with the Honda rider fastest by a tenth initially, then quickly back ahead after Rossi had briefly deposed him on the second runs.

Then Lorenzo raised the bar as he began his final run, lapping in 1m31.111s to move three tenths of a second clear of the field.

The Spaniard followed that up with three more laps quicker than anyone else had managed up to that point.

Dani Pedrosa on the second Honda and Ducati rider Andrea Iannone moved up to second and third late on, while Rossi's final-run gains were only good enough for fourth.

Rossi was on course to challenge Lorenzo before a minor error on his last lap, while Marquez did not improve on his earlier time and ended up fifth.

Danilo Petrucci starred by putting the Pramac Ducati sixth, ahead of Espargaro brothers Pol and Aleix.

Cal Crutchlow and Maverick Vinales completed the top 10.

Hector Barbera was 11th at the start of a weekend where he is battling Loris Baz for the title in the Open class.
