Jenson Button in 'good talks' with McLaren over his F1 future
Jenson Button says he is in "good talks" with McLaren as speculation continues regarding his future in Formula 1
The 2009 world champion said in Singapore he had made his decision on his future and conceded racing in McLaren-Honda's current situation gives him little "joy".
McLaren holds the option on Button's services for 2016, which is believed to expire at the end of the month, and thus has the final say over whether he continues.
However, it is thought unlikely to force him to stay if he wants to retire.
Speaking on Thursday in Japan ahead of Honda's home race, Button suggested a decision had not been made.
"I can't give you anything else since the last race, no more information," said Button.
"You're going to have to wait for a little while I'm sorry to say.
"We're in good talks, the team and myself. That's it.
"There is so many possibilities of what could happen next year. So many possibilities.
"I've got nothing else for you.
"We're here to concentrate on this weekend, it's a big weekend in front of Honda's home crowd at their circuit.
"We hope we can have a good weekend. Obviously, the weather mixes it up a bit, which is what we need to be competitive. I'm hoping to have a good result."
Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel said it would be "a big loss" should Button choose to retire at the end of the season.
"He's a big character, we know he is quick and he deserves to be a champion," said Vettel.
"If he had the package to win another one, he would have a big say in it.
"His quality is without doubt, he is a fair guy both on the track and also outside the track and we all like him for many reasons so it would be a big loss."
