Porsche could offer Juan Pablo Montoya test in LMP1 919 Hybrid
Former grand prix driver Juan Pablo Montoya could be offered the chance to test Porsche's 919 Hybrid World Endurance Championship racer
The Penske IndyCar driver is a guest of Porsche at this weekend's Austin round of the WEC and has expressed an interest in the series and the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Porsche LMP1 team principal Andreas Seidl explained that he and team vice president Fritz Enzinger had remained in contact with Montoya from the period in which they worked together at the Williams-BMW Formula 1 squad in 2001-04.
"We both know him from our time at BMW and I worked on his car," Seidl told AUTOSPORT.
"He is very interested in the WEC and is watching all the races in detail.
"We have invited him here as our guest and are talking about the possibility of a test, and then we will see how that evolves in the future."
Seidl stressed there were no plans for Montoya to join Porsche's LMP1 team in the short term.
"We are very happy with our nine drivers at the moment," he said.
Porsche has expressed of Nico Hulkenberg, Nick Tandy and Earl Bamber aboard its third car for the 24 Hours next year.
Seidl said that Force India driver Hulkenberg's return would be dependent on the Formula 1 calendar not clashing with the Le Mans test day two weeks before the 24 Hours.
"We can only be finally sure when both calendars are fixed, and then it depends on him finding an agreement with us and Force India," he explained.
Seidl stated Porsche would still be happy for Hulkenberg to take up a place in the Le Mans squad even if he is unable to contest the Spa WEC round in May by way of preparation.
"Even if there is a clash with F1 and Spa, with the experience he now has, we could still expect Nico to do Le Mans with us," he said.
