Hell World Rallycross: Timmy Hansen leads Peugeot one-two

The Peugeot 208 man finished top of the Intermediate Classification, and won the first semi-final to claim pole position for the final.

Hansen's team-mate Davy Jeanney had finished second to him in the semi-final and from the second row of the grid covered the Swede into Turn 1 of the final.

While Hansen was untroubled throughout, Trois Rivieres winner Jeanney was slowed by a mud-covered windscreen but held on for second.

"Finishing top of the Intermediate Classification was great, but that is still a long way from standing on the podium," said Hansen.

"The car we have is great, it has so much potential. I pushed hard at the beginning of the final but made a gap and was able to be careful. It's absolutely unbelievable."

Robin Larsson took his joker on the first lap and leapfrogged Alx Danielsson for third, putting a succession of technical behind him.

PG Andersson made it into the semi-finals as first reserve after Johan Kristoffersson failed to bring his Volkswagen Polo to the semi-final pre-grid within the time limit.

He made a good start in semi-final two and jokered on the first lap, kept clear of the chaos around him to win and make it onto the front row of the final.

The former World Rally Championship driver may have finished on the podium, but for a puncture.

Timur Timerzyanov made it into the final despite rolling in the action-filled second semi, but the exhaust on his Ford Fiesta was squashed after first-lap contact in the final, forcing the Russian to retire.

In semi-final two, championship leader Petter Solberg led into Turn 1 but was pushed wide by Andreas Bakkerud into the hairpin at the bottom of the circuit.

Bakkerud got through while Solberg took his joker on lap two before being slowed by a half-spin for Mattias Ekstrom ahead, with Timerzyanov then running into the back of Solberg's DS 3 and causing significant damage.

Ekstrom was slowed by a puncture, before Timerzyanov hit the back of his Audi on the outside of the first corner mid-race and rolled, causing more damage.

Bakkerud retired when he lost the wheel on his Ford Fiesta.

Hansen's win marks the fourth time in succession that a Peugeot 208 has crossed the finish line first in the last four events, although Hansen did lose the win at Holjes in Sweden to Ekstrom for forceful driving in the final corner.
