Hungarian GP: Force India withdraws from FP2 after Perez crash

Force India has withdrawn from the second Formula 1 practice session ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix as the team investigates the cause of Sergio Perez's FP1 crash

Perez had just emerged from the exit of the Turn 11 right-hander and was on the rumble strip when the rear snapped on him and pitched the Mexican into a spin.

Replays suggested this was caused by a failure in the right-rear suspension, although this has yet to be confirmed.

Perez spun across the track and hit a barrier nose-first, damaging the front-right suspension.

As he rebounded onto the track, the deranged front wheel folded under the car and tipped him into a roll.

The car came to rest upside down, although Perez was able to get out quickly and was taken to the medical centre for a check-up before he returned to the pits on foot just over 10 minutes after the crash.

In the wake of the incident, a team statement read: "Sahara Force India will not take part in this afternoon's second practice session at the Hungaroring as the team continues to investigate a suspension problem which caused Sergio Perez to crash this morning.

"Sergio's car suffered significant damage to the bodywork, wings and floor, and repairs are ongoing.

"As a precaution, the team has chosen not to run Nico Hulkenberg this afternoon.

"The team will work hard to fully understand the cause of the failure and find a resolution in order to be ready for Saturday's free practice session."

Perez finished eighth quickest in FP1, 1.635s behind pacesetter Lewis Hamilton in his Mercedes, with Hulkenberg down in 13th and 2.176s off the pace.
