Sauber has been urged to find ways to recover from a "horrifying" Austrian Grand Prix at this week's Formula 1 test, according to team principal Monisha Kaltenborn.

The Swiss team finished with both cars out of the points, after Marcus Ericsson suffered multiple problems in the race and Felipe Nasr fell down the order with brake problems, dropping him out of the points in the closing stages.

Ericsson was slow away after jumping the start, which earned him a penalty, and he also suffered damage to his car from debris and his car twice shutting down on track.

"It was a really horrifying race, there's nothing else to say," Kaltenborn told AUTOSPORT.

"Everything just went wrong for Marcus so what else can he do?

"And Felipe was doing absolutely fine but we are not getting our act together on his brake cooling and that's absolutely unacceptable.

"It's very frustrating because he drives this well and we are into the points and we are just not able to resolve this.

"That's what the guys need to figure out during the test now."

Nasr, who was passed for 10th by Daniel Ricciardo with 11 laps to go on Sunday, said he was pleased with his performance in Austria.

"I felt I did everything right over the weekend from the very first session," said the Brazilian.

"Everything was running smoothly until the brake pedal started to get longer.

"Then the brakes overheat and that's it - you start to create other problems.

"The car doesn't pitch the same, the tyres don't work the same, then you get graining.

"I was just trying to survive the race. It's frustrating not to take the opportunity because it was an easy race to score points.

"It's the second time in a row we have the same problem so we need to find a solution as soon as possible.

"I think the team know what the problem is, and we definitely need to work on that.

"It's unacceptable to come into a braking zone and see all the other cars braking 15-20 metres later."
