Estering World Rallycross: Davy Jeanney tops heats despite crash

Jeanney finished fastest in the other three heats, having dominated on day one and was gone fastest in heat three on Sunday morning.

He followed former touring car driver Tommy Rustad for most of his heat four race but hit the guardrail on the inside of the last loose section on the final lap, sending his Peugeot into the bank on the outside.

Worse was to come though, as 2014 European champion Robin Larsson ran into the stricken Peugeot, damaging both cars.

Both drivers made it to the finish of the race and are both inside the semi-final qualifying positions, Jeanney top and Larsson sixth.

World champion Petter Solberg has had a relatively quite weekend. He was 10th in heat one but was twice in the top four in heats two and three, then set the fastest time in heat four.

That placed him second after the heats and he will start on pole position for semi-final two.

Reinis Nitiss ended up third overall ahead of Tord Linnerud, despite having rolled his Volkswagen Polo in Saturday free practice.

He sits one place ahead of team-mate Johan Kristoffersson, who spun on the joker lap in his second heat race on Saturday.

Timmy Hansen failed to finish heat two but has fought back to qualify ninth, one place ahead of Andreas Bakkerud who was disqualified from heat three for a technical infringement.

Double European champion Timur Timerzyanov makes in into the semi-finals after a number of difficult events, while German driver Rene Munnich qualified 12th and will start in the semi-finals for the first time in his Audi S3.

Marklund Motorsport again failed to make the semi-finals with either Toomas Heikkinen or PG Andersson, both drivers experiencing problems throughout the weekend, while Mattias Ekstrom failed to finish both of his Saturday heat races and was classified 15th. He is also out of the semi-final places.
