WRC driver Martin Prokop wants to try World Rallycross
World Rally Championship privateer Martin Prokop is considering racing in the World Rallycross Championship in the future
The Czech driver, whose career best results to date have been three fourth place finishes in the WRC, visited the Belgian round of World RX last month as he travelled from M-Sport in Cumbria to the Portuguese round of the WRC.
"I wanted to go to an event this year, everybody can see that rallycross is growing up, and I think it has a huge future," Prokop told AUTOSPORT.
"I've been speaking with the promoter and I'm really impressed how they are pushing to make it more exciting for the drivers and the spectators."
The 2009 Junior World Rally champion says that although he intends to continue competing in the WRC, he may decrease his number of events.
"I have to maybe slow down a bit with the amount of rallies I do," he said.
"The rallycross format is good for me because it's just three days and the racing is very nice.
"This is one of the options for the future. I have no racing experience at all but I would like to drive so I hope I will get chance to try."
Prior to the Belgian event, Prokop last attended a round of the European Rallycross championship a decade ago.
"You can see that the cars are much more driveable than before," he said.
"They were very understeering but the new cars work similar to the WRC, with much more power. It has to be big fun to drive."
Prokop drives an M-Sport Ford Fiesta in the WRC, run by his own team.
M-Sport has built a number of rallycross Fiesta Supercars, most notably for Ken Block to use in selected World RX events and the Global Rallycross Championship in America.
