Lausitzring DTM: Jamie Green completes double victory

Jamie Green completed a Lausitzring DTM double, as Audi capped a weekend of domination with the top five places in Sunday's one-hour race

Having taken pole by half-a-second, Green was beaten off the line by Mattias Ekstrom.

Green reduced Ekstrom's early advantage and after running wide on the exit on his first attempt to take the lead at Turn 1, fired successfully down the inside a lap later, at the 10-minute mark.

Green skipped away by 1.1 seconds over the remainder of the lap to escape the DRS zone.

From there, he managed the race and led by three seconds with 10 minutes remaining, when Lucas Auer beached his Mercedes at Turn 8.

The safety car was duly called into action, and when racing resumed with five minutes to go, Green edged clear again and won by two seconds, to go with his Saturday victory.

In addition to extending his championship lead to 17 points, Green becomes the first driver to win a pair of DTM races on the same weekend since Uwe Alzen at the Nurburgring in 2002, following this year's reintroduction of a second race.

Ekstrom was second, while Miguel Molina withstood pressure from Timo Scheider to claim the final podium position.

Edoardo Mortara made it an all-Audi top five, but only after holding off a feisty Daniel Juncadella on the final lap.

The Mercedes driver tried to go around the outside at Turn 1 but couldn't make the move stick.

Juncadella could, though, recover in time to prevent Christian Vietoris and Maxime Martin from capitalising, and finished in sixth place.

Nico Muller was ninth, while Bruno Spengler crossed the line 10th but was issued a drive-through penalty for late contact that dropped Adrien Tambay out of the points.

Spengler's penalty is set to elevate Mike Rockenfeller to 10th and the final point.

Last year's Lausitzring winner, Pascal Wehrlein had an eventful run to 14th, including a slow start and an infield excursion after a clash with Antonio Felix da Costa.

Marco Wittmann fared even worse, the reigning champion 18th after being forced wide by Robert Wickens at Turn 7 on the opening lap.
