Hamilton plans to control Monaco GP qualifying after 2014 incident

Twelve months ago Rosberg locked up and went down the Mirabeau escape road on his final Q3 run, with Hamilton abandoning a quicker lap after encountering the yellow flags for the German's incident.

Stewards investigated whether Rosberg had gone off deliberately to hamper Hamilton but decided no action was necessary.

The reigning world champion says he is undecided over his tactic for Q3 this year, when it is his call to decide the order in which the Mercedes run.

"I do have the choice this year which is good," said Hamilton. "It's lucky that I get that in the sense that at the first race we tossed a coin.

"From race to race, there's pros and cons to being the first car or wanting to be one of the latter cars in qualifying, and naturally here yellow flags and all those kind of things are an issue.

"To be honest you could get it wrong either way. If you decided to go first and then on your lap there happens to be yellow flags... I don't know.

"I think we'll play to be as a team, me and my engineers decide.

"I'm confident that last year's episode will not re-occur and so I don't feel pressured either way.

"I'm just going with the mindset of trying to be even better than I was last year and do a better lap."

Rosberg believes going second of the two cars is generally an advantage but that Monaco can be an exception.

"Usually going second, there is that little bit extra grip because you're not going to be right behind your team-mate," said the German.

"You're going to have a couple of cars in between and every car puts down a fraction more rubber and you'll have that extra grip.

"Most of the time, that is the thing to do.

"The only thing here, though, is of course you have to weigh in the fact that something can happen.

"Everyone does their own individual choice."
