DTM could rejig 2015 calendar to fill vacant German Grand Prix date

A nine-round schedule was announced last December and commenced last weekend at Hockenheim.

In March, Germany's F1 race was officially removed from the calendar after Hockenheim could not reach an agreement with Formula One Management, leaving the nation without a grand prix for the first time since 1960.

Racing on the prominent July 17-19 weekend appeals to the DTM, and a number of scenarios are currently being explored, with the Nurburgring - originally scheduled to host F1 - the likely venue.

A shift would create back-to-back rounds, following the Zandvoort event on July 10-12.

One option would see the Nurburbring's current round in September simply brought forward to the summer slot, which could in turn result in Hockenheim's season finale also moving - from mid-October to September 25-27.

Another scenario would involve a second visit to the Nurburgring being added, although manufacturers are wary of the additional costs this would incur at this late stage.

"As far as my understanding is, there will be no 10th race," Mercedes DTM boss Ulrich Fritz told journalists at Hockenheim.

"They are still discussing about the shift of the Nurburgring race to another date but as I said there will not be a 10th race weekend."

The Formula 3 European Championship's withdrawal from August's Moscow Raceway round has no bearing on the future of the DTM event.

"It's definitely going ahead," a spokesman confirmed to AUTOSPORT.
