Ferrari F1 boss says team must stay "aggressive" with strategy

Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene says his team must continue its aggressive approach to strategy if it wants to consistently beat Formula 1 rival Mercedes

The Scuderia has taken advantage of its better tyre life to give Mercedes a hard time in 2015, and following Sebastian Vettel's Malaysian Grand Prix victory, it was able to force the world champion team to go defensive with its pit strategies in China and Bahrain.

While Ferrari continues to push hard to catch Mercedes in terms of outright pace, Arrivabene said the team needs to perfect its strategic calls to give it the best chance to challenge in the interim.

"In Bahrain we put together an aggressive strategy and this is exactly what we discussed," said Arrivabene.

"We recognise the gap we have with Mercedes so the only way is to be aggressive.

"If one day, I don't know when, we are able to catch them, the strategy must be put together in a way which is a bit different."

Arrivabene said that like most teams, Ferrari is planning to introduce upgrades for the upcoming Spanish Grand Prix.

"I heard a lot of teams are coming with new things," he said.

"We are now preparing, as all the others are, some solutions for Barcelona.

"We are doing all of our development step-by-step but I think in Barcelona, we are going to finally take a good package."
