Felipe Massa wants pitlane consistency from Williams in 2015

Felipe Massa says Williams needs to focus on consistency if it is going to improve on last year's third place in the Formula 1 constructors' championship

Williams endured a miserable season in 2013, finishing ninth overall, but turned its fortunes around last year and finished as Mercedes' closest challenger on merit.

The team had a strong winter, focusing on refining the car and ironing out the creases in its operational practices, an area which let the Grove-based outfit down in 2014.

During the Australian Grand Prix, Massa was jumped by Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel during the stops after losing 1.5 seconds trying to pass Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull on his out-lap.

However, the stationary time of the stop was 0.6s quicker than Vettel's, as was the overall time in pitlane, which proved that a day spent working on pitstop practice in testing was already paying off.

"The guys did a good job with the stops, but it's just one," said Massa. "We need to be consistent.

"The consistency is what counts for the world championships and we are really working on that."

Valtteri Bottas' back injury meant it was always going to be a tough race for Williams with just one car, but considering Massa failed to finish the 2014 season opener after a first corner collision with Kamui Kobayashi, the Brazilian remains positive.

"It was a shame not to get both cars in the race, but it was important to start the season scoring good points and I'm sure we will be in good shape for the next race," he said.
