DTM adopts Formula 1-style permanent race number system for 2015
The DTM has followed Formula 1's lead in allowing its drivers to choose their race number, starting from the 2015 season
Following on from F1 introducing the same rule a year ago, drivers can now choose their number for their DTM career, with numbers 2-99 available and number one reserved for the reigning champion.
The series also published a full list of drivers' choices for this season, with several drivers explaining their selection.
Current champion Marco Wittmann revealed that his choice would have been #11 had he needed to choose, while Augusto Farfus (#18) and Nico Muller (#51) selected numbers from their early days in karting.
Mattias Ekstrom (#5), Bruno Spengler (#7) and Timo Scheider (#10), all champions in the past, have selected the numbers that they won their first titles with, while Robert Wickens will use the #6 that he raced during his 2011 Formula Renault 3.5 title triumph.
Mike Rockenfeller, DTM champion in 2013 with Audi, has chosen 99.
"Nine was always a good number for me, and I thought that things can't go wrong with two on my car," he said.
