WRC Rally Sweden: VW seeks Sebastien Ogier penalty clarification

Ogier was hit with a two-minute penalty - suspended for one year - after the organisers of this week's second round of the World Rally Championship caught him speeding on the recce seven times.

Capito said VW did not currently plan to appeal the decision, but wants further information.

"We are not appealing, we will keep the option for the appeal," he told AUTOSPORT.

"I want to go and see the stewards tonight and just see the [paperwork] sheets. It's not decided if we will appeal, but I don't think so."

Capito admitted that he did not think there was any technical problem with the Golf used by Ogier for reconnaissance.

"I think the calibration is right, but you know on all of the other rallies the speed limit is 80km/h and here it is 70km/h, so I think the guys have a different feeling.

"For sure, for me, that's the reason.

"If they are too fast, then they are too fast [and we won't appeal]."

The suspended penalty will only be triggered if Ogier is clocked speeding on a recce, and does not apply for road sections during the rallies.
