McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner George Russell tests F3 car
McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award winner George Russell looks ever more likely to graduate to Formula 3 with Carlin after completing two more test days with the team at Monteblanco
Carlin joined fellow Volkswagen-engined European championship teams Van Amersfoort Racing and Signature at the Spanish track from Tuesday to Thursday, although 16-year-old BRDC Formula 4 champion Russell missed the opening day.
"It was a bit tight to get there for Tuesday with the AUTOSPORT and BRDC Awards, but I got into it quite quickly and ended up the quickest in the team," said Russell.
"That's all you can go on because you never know what the other teams are doing.
"I'll test again with Carlin at Valencia on Monday and Tuesday next week, and we should have a decision for next year by Christmas."
The teams had to agree to switch to Monteblanco's shorter circuit after the first day, as the longer layout was taking too much out of the tyres.
Also running with Carlin - which brought all six of its cars - over the course of the test were 2015 signing Gustavo Menezes, fellow Euro F3 regular Tatiana Calderon, Formula Renault graduates Alex Bosak and Ryan Tveter, BRDC Formula 4 runner-up Arjun Maini (on Tuesday only), and karters Callum Ilott and Zach Claman DeMelo.
Van Amersfoort took two cars to the test, with the team's 2014 regular Jules Szymkowiak and karting graduate Alessio Lorandi driving.
Signature tested FRenault ace and McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award finalist Alexander Albon and French Formula 4 ace Dorian Boccolacci.
Meanwhile, Prema Powerteam was in action at Jerez with new signing Jake Dennis, likely team-mates Lance Stroll and Brandon Maisano, and FRenault ALPS runner-up Charles Leclerc.
