F1 legend Emerson Fittipaldi keen to race with Christian and Pietro
Two-time Formula 1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi wants to race with nephew Christian and grandson Pietro after making his comeback in last weekend's Interlagos World Endurance Championship round
The 67-year-old has vowed to race again after ending a six-year absence from the cockpit to drive an AF Corse Ferrari in an event he promoted.
"This isn't my last race: I love motor racing, so why not do more? I enjoy it," he said.
"My next dream is to race together with Pietro and Christian — we could do a WEC race next year and it would be fun."
Fittipaldi suggested that a Le Mans 24 Hours assault with 43-year-old Christian and 18-year-old Pietro, respectively title winners in the United SportsCar Championship and Formula Renault BARC in 2014, was unlikely.
"I would have to think hard about doing Le Mans; I never did it when I was doing F1 because I thought it was dangerous," he explained.
Fittipaldi raced an AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia in GTE Am class of the Interlagos WEC finale together with Alessandro Pierguidi and Jeff Segal.
The car finished the race in 21st and last position after a long stop for gearbox repairs.
Fittipaldi, whose fastest race lap was 2.3 seconds slower than Pierguidi's best, said he was happy with his performance in the car.
DID YOU KNOW...
Emerson Fittipaldi came close to contesting the Le Mans 24 Hours in 1991 in a CART 'superteam' together with Mario and Michael Andretti?
The Brazilian has revealed that they were in negotiation to drive for the Sauber Mercedes squad and that a deal had been agreed before publication of the CART Indycar calendar threw up a clash between the French classic and the Portland round of the US series.
"It was all agreed, but then we had the clash," he said.
"I always had concerns about doing Le Mans, but that was just after they put the chicanes in the Mulsanne Straight [for the 1990 event] and it helped change my mind."
