Historic Formula 1 race joins Singapore Grand Prix bill

The FIA Masters Historic F1 Championship and Masters HGP series will merge to create a specially selected grid of cars from the 1970s and 80s, running three-litre engines and sporting their original liveries.

Ron Maydon, who is president and founder of the Masters series, believes they will prove a worthy addition to the on-track action at the Marina Bay track in September.

"It will be the first time the motor racing fans in Singapore will see such classic cars race in action," he said.

"We are confident that they will enjoy the sights and sounds of a super-fast history lesson just as much as watching their current F1 heroes."

Singapore GP deputy chairman Colin Syn believes the city backdrop and night-time running setting will make for an attractive prospect.

"The Masters are a great addition to our support track action," he said.

"We are delighted to select the best of historic F1 cars to race under Singapore's lights just like their modern counterparts and fans can look forward to the thrilling spectacle of racing history set against the Singapore skyline."

The Singapore event will be the second time this season that the classic F1 cars have joined a GP bill, with the Masters HGP field have been part of the Canadian GP support package in Montreal last month.
