Hungaroring GP2: Felipe Nasr scores his first series pole position
Williams F1 protege Felipe Nasr claimed his first GP2 pole position for Carlin at the Hungaroring on Friday afternoon, closing the gap to series leader Jolyon Palmer by four points in the process
Nasr set two laps within 0.05 seconds of each other, both of which were almost two tenths clear of the opposition and achieved his first pole in 30 attempts.
Palmer hadn't qualified off the front row all season for DAMS, but was only seventh fastest here after a troubled day. However, he will be elevated to the third row, as fifth-placed Johnny Cecotto Jr has a three-place grid penalty.
Cecotto incurred the sanction for his free practice collision with Palmer this morning, and stewards viewed it as a "reckless collision".
There was another incident as qualifying began, when Tom Dillmann simply drove his Caterham car into the side of Sergio Canamasas in the pitlane as cars queued to leave, slightly damaging both cars.
Dillmann, who scored pole here last year, steered his repaired car to second on the grid, ahead of Campos Racing duo Arthur Pic and Kimiya Sato.
will start fifth for ART, due to Cecotto's penalty, with Palmer sixth. Raffaele Marciello is likewise promoted to seventh.
Behind Cecotto, Marco Sorensen will start ninth ahead of Stephane Richelmi, whose DAMS car broke down during the session, and two-time 2014 winner Mitch Evans.
