Caterham Formula 1 team gives Nathanael Berthon development deal

The Caterham Formula 1 team has added GP2 racer Nathanael Berthon to a "new" driver development programme

The team, which underwent a change of ownership last week when its founder Tony Fernandes sold it to a consortium advised by Colin Kolles, said this Berthon was "one of the drivers" who is part of the new project.

"[It] will give up-and-coming racing drivers the opportunity to embed themselves in the Caterham F1 team's on and off-track operations, helping to prepare them fully for the step up to Formula 1," a team statement added.

Under Fernandes, Caterham's junior scheme ran under the title of 'Caterham Racing Academy', with a line-up including GP2 racer Alexander Rossi and Formula Renault 3.5 frontrunner Will Stevens, who is testing for the F1 team at Silverstone today.

On the deal with Berthon, new team CEO Christijan Albers said: "Nathanael is an exciting young talent with a proven track record in the feeder series to F1.

"As he already has F1 experience [testing with HRT in 2011] he fits very neatly into our team.

"We will work closely with him to help him reach his full potential and are all excited about seeing him continue to grow as a driver, in and out of the cockpit."
