Marvin Kirchhofer to contest British Formula 3 round at Silverstone
GP3 racer Marvin Kirchhofer is to contest next week's British Formula 3 round at Silverstone
The 20-year-old reigning German F3 Cup champion will race with Fortec Motorsport.
Kirchhofer replaces Sam MacLeod, who won two of the three races in the opening round at Rockingham but has a clashing round in German F3, which is his main priority this season.
The German aims to gain experience of the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit prior to July's British GP support round, will therefore line up alongside series leader Martin Cao and Matt Rao in a Dallara-Mercedes F312.
Kirchhofer has already tested with Fortec's F3 team, getting a run at Valencia last December.
Fortec team manager Dan Mitchell said: "We are very happy to have Marvin on board. He's a proven race winner and can hopefully continue this with us at Silverstone.
"He'll be a great benchmark to our drivers and a good asset to British F3."
Kirchhofer added: "I'm really happy to be back racing with Fortec Motorsport - and after a good test in 2013 I'm optimistic to race for the win at Silverstone.
"It's a great opportunity for me, getting some experience at Silverstone and trying to improve myself with a bit more racing."
Meanwhile, Carlin is understood to be close to announcing a second driver for Silverstone to partner Peter Li in the car raced by Alice Powell at Rockingham.
Double R Racing is keen to run a third car at a later stage, but is looking for a multi-round commitment to justify the expense of buying another engine.
