Power apologises to Pagenaud for clash in Long Beach IndyCar race

Will Power accepted blame for spinning Simon Pagenaud mid-way through Sunday's IndyCar race at Long Beach, but the Frenchman says he is not interested in the Penske driver's apology

Power was trying to make up ground on a restart when he attempted a move to the inside of Pagenaud's car, which turned into contact when the Schmidt driver took his natural line and tripped over the Australian.

The clash put Pagenaud into the wall, forcing him to return to the pits for a new front wing and the removal of debris. The time lost dropped him from second to 21st, although he later rallied back to fifth.

"I really thought he had a problem because he went back really slowly," Power said. "I went up his inside and then realised that he was going to turn and tried to back out and just got him.

"I feel bad. It was my bad. I don't like to be raced like that. I'm surprised I didn't get a penalty. I honestly thought he had a flat tyre."

When told about Power's remorse, Pagenaud was unmoved.

"It's a bit late for that," he said. "He ruined my race. When you're somebody like Will, you whinge about everything, especially people taking you out.

"I'm very disappointed. We had the car to win. We're racing under a green flag, and [he thinks] I slowed down? Good for him."
